The last substantive news we heard on HB 589 was an April 15, 2011 Press Release from Congresswoman Lee, wherein she described efforts to bring the bill onto the House floor for vote. Since then? Crickets.
I am sure that Congresswoman Lee is working hard to get HB 589 passed. And, maybe she will even succeed. Yet, at the end of the day, will the passage of this bill poise our Country for long-term recovery? No. As we have discussed before, discrimination against the unemployed is rampant, and it is choking our Nation's recovery.
In my view, the answer to our problem is an Affirmative Action program requiring companies to make a certain percentage of their new hires the chronically unemployed. I am interested in your view on this, so please vote in our poll and provide any comments you may have on the issue.
